Fiction + No Joy + Girls Names
Tuesday, March 01
We've got Fiction back to headline! Since they last played for us they've headed out on tour with Klaxons and released a single or two. Rough Trade Shops had this to say about the most recent: "a classic slice of 80's england that sits somewhere between prime xtc and a fairground version of orange juice. it has style, groove and soul. No Joy are on Mexican Summer and over for a few shows. Pitchfork said "Lush, My Bloody Valentine, the Breeders, Sonic Youth, and even traces of Hole can be picked up from No Joy's sometimes-melancholy, sometimes-violent sounds." Means they like it I think. Mexican Summer say "the group creates a maelstrom of melody out of both, with a layered, fuzzy approach that incorporates big, clean riffage, anonymous vocals hiding in the background, and a considerable churn across memorable four-minute pop songs.
